NORMAL
There is no set criteria for psychiatrists to use when deeming a person “NORMAL”… Being normal is what that psychiatrist deems normal to be in their patient…
~
PCOS Lady – I truly see a huge problem in not having a set criteria for normal!
~ Many people with mental illness will play the system… Besides acting normal around other people… ~ “He isn’t all there” etc…
~ Criminals, murderers, etc… many work the system! ~ “That isn’t right” etc…

TEST RANGES
~ Some are changing, cholesterol’s normal has changed…
(Most doctors do not know how to read test results on the whole)

Suicide
Warning Signs

~
PCOS Lady:
I have had 1st hand experience talking with the Suicide.org representative… Highly knowledgeable on military issues as well as suicide issues…
~ Military present and past in a suicide scenario are to call this place and talk to a rep… The civilian people and law are not to do anything until this place is called and they direct them!
* Point: Many military people are deemed suicidal but reality is they are having PTSD issues!!!!!
~ This is a misdiagnosis that can hurt that person later! Which is the reason to call this place ASAP!
~
I changed the suicide diagnosis on the man i had Durable Power of Attorney and Advance Health Directive over to withdrawal symptoms from his powerful psych drugs… Depakote, Clonezapam, etc…

High Testosterone In Women Symptoms

Posted in RELATED: HORMONES tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 3:52 am by PCOSLady

PCOS Lady:

First time having my testosterone levels checked and ever being interested in them… They are high! Stress i know i am under daily in my current living environment!
~ I have all my test results from 2003… I do glance back at them at times…
~ A little known symptom is having hair on top of your toes…
~
A few more odd symptoms are stray dark hairs on your above lip, your chin, your breast and inner thighs…
~
Interesting to know the symptoms and what lowers testosterone…
~
Just read from a Dr Oz show women in later years are best to have testosterone levels of 50 – 80, which is that of a woman in her 30’s…
~
http://www.ehow.com/facts_4962570_causes-high-testosterone-women_.html
~
SYMPTOMS OF HIGH TESTOSTERONE IN WOMEN
~
High testosterone symptoms include hair loss, hirsutism (unwanted male-pattern hair growth), unexplained rapid weight gain, virilization, acne, aggressiveness, irritability and missed menstrual cycles. Decreased breast size and a deepening of the voice will occur along with a coarsening of the skin.
~
CAUSES: HORMONAL IMBALANCES
~
The main causes of high testosterone in females are hormonal imbalances that can happen at any age, and often sneak up gradually, with the 30s being the predominant time for things to get worse.
~
COMMON TESTOSTERONE INCREASING DISEASES
~
Adrenal gland disorders and ovarian problems, often caused by other hormonal imbalances, create an over-abundance of testosterone. The most common testosterone-increasing disease is polycystic ovarian syndrome. Diabetes can also lead to these endocrine upsets.
~
RARER DISORDERS THAT CAUSE HIGH TESTOSTERONE
~
Other disorders that cause high testosterone in women include acromegaly, adrenal neoplasm disorders, Conn’s syndrome, Cushing’s syndrome, dwarfism, gigantism or multiple endocrine neoplasm 1 and 2. An androgen-producing adrenal or ovarian tumor can lead to high levels of testosterone, as can congenital adrenal hyperplasia and thyroid disorders in general.

~
SOLUTIONS FOR HIGH TESTOSTERONE IN WOMEN
~
By Juliana Robertson, eHow Contributor
Testosterone is produced in the ovaries and adrenal glands of women. High testosterone levels in women tend to cause a variety of issues. Elevated levels of this male synonymous hormone can cause excessive facial hair, increased muscle mass, waistline body fat and adult onset acne. The most common cause of this testosterone increase in women is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. This disorder causes multiple cysts like follicles to accumulate in the ovaries. The ovary begins to produce and secrete high levels of testosterone.
~
LIFESTYLE CHANGES
~
Implementing changes to your lifestyle can effectively reduce high testosterone levels. Low risk changes include reducing stress levels and following a healthy eating regimen. Women with testosterone imbalances have successfully lost weight through following a low carbohydrate/diabetic eating plan. Adding fruit, salad, fish, poultry and nuts to your diet can help to reduce testosterone levels. Consuming fried, sugary and oily foods contribute to testosterone increases and weight gain. Practicing stress reduction techniques, like yoga and meditation, can be extremely beneficial. Combining these practices with regular exercise and a balanced diet will help to improve your overall quality of health.
~
NATURAL REMEDIES
~
Alternative medicine is an effective way to treat elevated testosterone levels safely and naturally. This approach involves little to no risk, with various therapies utilized for treatment. Herbal remedies effectively treat testosterone imbalances at its source. These options are easy to follow, and cost effective. Two types used for treatment are Phytoestrogenic and Non estrogenic herbs. Phytoestrogenic herbs (ex: black cohosh) contain plant manufactured estrogen. They help to alleviate imbalances through introducing additional hormones within the body. Non estrogenic herbs (ex: macafem) do not contain any estrogen properties. They stimulate natural hormonal production by nourishing endocrine and pituitary glands. They balance testosterone naturally by stimulating the body to produce its own hormones.

Mold Exposure Symptoms

Posted in MOLD tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 10:28 pm by PCOSLady

PCOS Lady:
Remember: If you see mold of any type on the outside of fruits and vegetables “it” is already through it! I see soft spots, greenish spots, black spots, white spots and at times fuzz… Flies are a good indicater to spoilage…

MOLD EXPOSURE SYMPTOMS
~
Symptoms of Fungal Exposure (Mycotoxicosis)
~
Susan Lillard-Roberts
~
Mold toxicity is often the end result with constant exposure to mold of a toxic substance. A common misconception among allergists who are untrained in this type of toxicity levels in humans, which is technically not their area of expertise unless they have trained specifically in environmental medicine with their background in immunology, is to do general allergen testing. Most tests usually result in an unequivocal result, a 2+ or less. This induces some physicians to order allergy shots, regardless. These shots are absolutely worthless (and could possibly be harmful) to a person who has been heavily exposed to these mycotoxins as they are already in a state of toxicity. If anything, this could exacerbate the problem. Because many doctors are not trained in this field, they may try to “guess” at a diagnosis.
~
In laymen’s terms, molds produce mycotoxins. These substances, although unseen by the naked eye, are ingested and then enter the body through the skin, mucous and airways. Once ingested, mold has the requirements to colonize and spread. In doing this, it can compromise the immune system and damage everyday processes of the body. Mold and yeast are interchangeable only in their dimorphic state, which is often a big misconception, although both are fungi. There has been a theory of a connection between Autism Spectrum Disorder onset and Candida Albicans in the body. New studies are being conducted during the first quarter of 2006. Updates will follow.
~
Fungi, which include yeasts, moulds, smuts and mushrooms, are responsible for causing four types of mycotic (fungal) disease:
~
1. Hypersensitivity – an allergic reaction to moulds and spores;
2. Mycotoxicosis – poisoning by food products contaminated by fungi
3. Mycetismus – the ingestion of preformed toxin (toadstool poisoning)
4. Infection (systemic) – (Mycotoxicosis; the subject below)
~
The following are a list of the most common symptoms of fungal exposure (bear in mind, people never fit all of below criteria). Most people with some forms of Mycotoxicosis meet at least 8 (recent symptoms) of the following criteria:
~
~ Fibromyalgia/mps (and several correlated symptoms)
~ Respiratory distress, coughing, sneezing, sinusitis
~ Difficulty swallowing, choking, spitting up (vomiting) mucous
~ Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
~ Burning in the throat and lungs (similar to acid reflux and often misdiagnosed as such)
~ Asthmatic signs; wheezing, shortness in breath, coughing, burning in lungs, etc.
~ Irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, diarrhea, sharp abdominal pains, stomach lesions
~ Bladder, liver, spleen, or kidney pain
~ Dark or painful urine
~ Dirt-like taste in mouth, coated tongue
~ Food allergies/leaky gut syndrome/altered immunity
~ Memory loss; brain fog, slurred speech, occasionally leading to dementia
~ Vision problems
~ Swollen lymph nodes
~ Large boils on neck (often a sign of anaphylaxis)
~ Yellowing of nails, ridges, or white marks under nail
~ Thyroid irregularities, sometimes leading to complete dysfunction; adrenal problems
~ Headaches
~ Anxiety/depression, heart palpitations – confusion, PTSD
~ Extreme blood pressure, cholesterol, or triglycerides irregularities
~ Ringing in ears, balance problems (very common), dizziness, loss of hearing (aspergillus niger)
~ Chronic fatigue (also included under this classification directional confusion)
~ Intermittent face flushing; almost always systemic, Called the Mylar Flush (neurological))
~ Night head sweats, and drooling while sleeping, profuse sweating
~ Multiple chemical sensitivity; only upon exposure to Stachybotrys and Chaetomium
~ Nose bleeds (stachybotrys)
~ Bruising/scarring easily; rash or hives, bloody lesions all over the skin (Often systemic, see images; skin)
~ Reproductive system complications; infertility, changes in menstrual cycles, miscarriage
~ Sudden weight changes (Detoxifier genotypes tend to gain weight, non-detoxifier genotypes tend to lose weight)
~ Cancer
~ Hair loss, very brittle nails, temporary loss of fingerprints (in rare cases)
~ Joint/muscle stiffness and pain
~ Irregular heart beat/heart attack
~ Seizures, inadvertent body jerking, twitching, inadvertent facial movements or numbness in face
~ Hypersensitivity when re-exposed to molds, which can lead to anaphylaxis
~ Anaphylaxis upon re-exposure to mycotoxin producing molds
~ Death, in extreme cases
~
Note: despite inaccurate and misleading reports by theorists regarding immuno-compromised, babies, and the elderly being more susceptible, this is a big misconception as exposure to the T-2 mycotoxins found in many types of current indoor molds will poison anyone in time; no one is immune. The reason for this conflicting information is that studies have never been conducted to prove this. If so called experts are going to make such a broad and misleading statement, they may as well say that this same category of people is more susceptible to SARS, West Nile Virus, AIDS, and cancer. The T-2 mycotoxins found in many of these molds are the exact same T-2 mycotoxins that have killed widespread groups of innocent people with Yellow Rain, a biological warfare agent.
~
Different mold species can have varying health effects, but it is important to remember that any excessive mold growth needs to be taken care of, regardless of the species. Any excessive mold growth can lead to increased allergies, toxicity, and house/building structural problems.

“I talked to a naturopathic doctor awhile back and he told me that there is a link between the chicken pox virus and PCOS. I had Chicken Pox when I was 13, and he said that girls who get them when they are older (like after puberty starts already and they are menstruating) that they often end up with PCOS. I just wondered if anyone else had Chicken Pox later in their life…” by a cyster…
~ Read posts at site…
~
Another cyster…
“My dermatologist says it’s the zosters virus (chicken pox or shingles). Since you can only get chicken pox once, a second infection with the zoster virus is called shingles.”
~
1st cyster also posted…
“Apparently Chicken Pox and Shingles are both caused by the varicella-zoster virus – which I think is a form of the Herpes virus. Apparently once you have the virus it does not totally go away (like when the Chicken Pox has run its course) – but it migrates back into the body and is thought to remain “dormant” usually for many years. In about 10-20% of people who have had the Chicken Pox – the virus will reactivate (usually after age 60) and present as Shingles.”
~
PCOS Lady
I suggest we cysters stay attuned to the updates in PCOS cases with Shingles as years pass… 20% is not many… But a majority had Chicken Pox!

The news Monday stated 1 in 3 people will get shingles in their life that had chickenpox!
~
Shingles Symptoms
~
Shingles is a painful condition characterized by the appearance of a skin rash. This condition is caused by the vermicelli zoster virus and this virus also causes chicken pox disease. In fact once a person has had the chicken pox this virus remains within the body in a dormant or latent condition. When the immune system of the body becomes the weak the virus may get reactivated and this can result in appearance of shingles symptoms.
~
The immune system may become weak when the person suffers from condition like Aids or is undergoing treatment like chemotherapy. Emotional stress may also result in reactivation of the virus and in most cases the exact cause for the reactivation of the virus is never found. Any individual who has suffered from chicken pox can develop shingles. However the shingles symptoms are most often seen in individuals who are around 60 years old.
~
The shingles symptoms begin with increased sensitivity of skin along with a burning pain. Some patients may also experience tickling or tingling along with numbness in the areas. In such a stage it is often difficult to determine the reason for the pain. The areas that are typically affected include the head, abdomen, neck, face and arm or leg. In rare cases areas of the face like the nose and eyes may also be affected.
~
Along with tingling of skin patients also tend to experience other problems like stomach ache, chills, diarrhea along with fever. Individuals may also experience tenderness in the lymph node areas in the initial stages. The shingles symptoms include a typical rash that starts with eruption of small blisters for a period of 3 to 5 days. These blisters erupt on a patch of red skin. The blisters tend to follow the individual nerve path areas and therefore tend to have a belt or band like appearance. In most cases only a single nerve level is involved and in rare cases multiple nerves may be involved.
~ ~ ~
www.WebMD.com
~
Prodromal Stage (before the rash appears)
~
* Pain, burning, tickling, tingling, or numbness develops in the area around the affected nerves several days before a rash begins. The discomfort occurs on a single side of the body, commonly on the chest or back, but it may occur on the abdomen, head, face, neck, or one arm or leg.
* Flu-like symptoms (usually without a fever), such as chills, stomachache, or diarrhea, may develop just before or along with the start of the rash.
* Swelling and tenderness of the lymph nodes may occur.
~
Active Stage (rash and blisters appear)
~
* A rash consisting of small fluid-filled blisters develops on reddened skin on one side of your body. Fluid inside the blister is initially clear but may become cloudy after 3 to 4 days.
* The rash may occur on the forehead, cheek, nose, and around one eye (herpes zoster ophthalmicusClick here to see an illustration.), which may threaten your sight unless you receive prompt treatment.3
* Extreme pain, described as piercing needles in the skin, may accompany the skin rash.
* Blisters may break open, ooze, and crust over in about 5 days. Complete healing takes about 2 to 4 weeks, although some scars may remain.2
~
Postherpetic Neuralgia (chronic pain stage)
~
* Postherpetic neuralgia is the most common complication of shingles. It lasts for at least 30 days and continues for months to years. Symptoms are:5
~ Aching, burning, stabbing pain in the area of the earlier shingles rash.
~ Persistent pain that may linger for years.
~ Extreme sensitivity to the touch.
* The pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia most commonly affects the forehead or chest, and it may make it difficult for the person to eat, sleep, and perform daily activities. It may also lead to depression.

Shingles are actually a virus. It’s the same virus (herpes zoster) that causes chickenpox – it just lies dormant in the body – until it rears its ugly head as shingles in some people. Older folks have weaker immune systems and are more prone to cases of shingles.

This virus is not the same thing as the genitial herpes virus BUT it is contageous until the sores scab over – a person can become infected from direct contact with the fresh rash. If a person has had chickenpox they can be infected and have the shingles too. If a person has never had chickenpox and gets infected by a contageous shingles person – that person will get chickenpox – not shingles.
~
Parasites, bacteria and viruses are sort of lumped together in a very broad catagory. They are ALL unwanted and dangerous guests!

See a Doctor “IF” … 20+ yr olds or?

Posted in PCOS SYMPTOMS tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 8:59 pm by PCOSLady

THANK YOU PCOSA FOR THE HEALTH BYTE...

~
Here is this week’s Health Byte from the PCOSA … 5/1/04
~
When to See a Doctor About PCOS From The Age of 20 Onwards
~
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a long-term condition that can gradually affect females in different age groups from puberty right through to much later in life.
~
Symptoms of PCOS are often mistaken for another medical problem, which can make it difficult to know when to see your doctor. But early diagnosis and treatment of PCOS may help prevent serious related health complications such as pre- and type 2 diabetes and heart disease as well as reproductive and metabolic problems.
~
Taking a wait-and-see approach, often called watchful waiting, is not appropriate when PCOS is suspected.
~
If you are between 20 and 40 years old, consult your doctor if you have:
~
~ Menstrual cycles that are consistently less than 21 days apart or more than 35 days apart.
~ Regular menstrual cycles but you have been trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant for more than 12 months.
~ Vaginal bleeding that lasts more than 8 days. Watch out for large clots or excessive spotting.
~ Pelvic pain that lasts for more than 4 weeks.
~ Excessive hair growth or hair growing on the chest, back, belly or face. This PCOS-linked condition is known as hirsutism.
~ Any symptoms of diabetes, such as increased thirst and frequent urination (especially at night), unexplained increase in appetite, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision or tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.
~ Skin problems such as acne, oily skin, dandruff, skin tags in the armpits or neck area, or dark skin patches (acanthosis nigricans) in skin folds or on the neck, groin or underarms.
~ Depression or mood swings. Many women have emotional problems related to the many physical symptoms of PCOS, such as excess hair, obesity or infertility.
~ Excess weight gain or upper body obesity (more abdominal fat than hip fat). This is also known as android obesity and is related to increased male hormone (testosterone) levels.
~
If you are older than 40, consult your doctor if you experience these additional symptoms which can be linked to PCOS :
~
~ Signs of heart disease, such as chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, unusual levels of fatigue or high blood pressure (hypertension)
~
Who To See
~
Health professionals who can diagnose and treat PCOS may include:

~
~ Endocrinologists (pediatric or medical)
~ Reproductive endocrinologists
~ Gynecologists
~ Obstetricians

ACNE: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)

HS ACNE VARIATION....

~
ACNE (severe)
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)
~
PCOS Lady
HS effects both men and women it seems… I have experienced minor bouts of this through my life… Luckily they went away… Acne, we all experience it, PCOS women usually have it start on the face, then it moves to our shoulders, etc… We get the few on our breasts and groin areas… Some women try treating acne for years with little success… You may have HS… I suggest keeping this info on hand for your doctor…
~ This can be caused by “bad” parasites as well. Best to look at the symptoms under PARASITES…
~ The Cure Zone covered HS exceptionally well!
~
What is hidradenitis suppurativa?
~
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), also known as ‘Acne Inversa’, is a physically, psychologically, and socially disabling disease affecting inverse areas of the body (those places where there is skin-to-skin contact – armpits, groin, breasts, etc.), and where apocrine glands and hair follicles are found. It is non-contagious and recurrent; typically manifesting as a progression from single boil-like, pus-filled abscesses, or hard sebaceous lumps, to painful, deep-seated, often inflamed clusters of lesions with chronic seepage (suppuration — hence the name) involving significant scarring.
~
Abscesses may be as large as baseballs in some people, are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation, culminating in drainage, often leaving open wounds that will not heal. These “flare-ups” are often triggered by stress, hormonal changes, or humid heat. Drainage of the lumps provides some relief from severe, often debilitating, pressure pain; however, pain occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for HS sufferers during flare-ups, and is difficult to manage.
~
Persistent lesions may lead to the formation of sinus tracts, or tunnels connecting the abscesses under the skin. At this stage, complete healing is usually not possible, and progression of the disease in the area is inevitable. Occurrences of bacterial infections and cellulites (deep tissue inflammation) are likely at these sites.
~
Because of the drainage which may have a foul odor, fever and fatigue caused by acute inflammation and the physical restrictions caused by pain and skin deformation, people often cannot work, drive, exercise or even perform day-to-day tasks, and are ashamed to go out in public. HS sufferers may go through severe bouts of depression, avoid public and inter-personal contact, become sedentary and often overweight.
~
HS typically goes undiagnosed for years because patients are ashamed to speak with anyone. When they do see a doctor, the disease is frequently misdiagnosed. Only relatively few physicians are able to recognize it and even when they do, suggested treatments are often ineffective, temporary and sometimes even harmful. There is no known cure nor any consistently effective treatment; what works for one person may not work for another. In advanced, chronic cases, surgery is often the choice, but recurrences of HS are not uncommon.
~
The mechanisms of the disease are described in this article.
from The Cure Zone site…
~
Historically, HS has been considered a rare disorder, because it is difficult to accurately estimate the number of HS victims; they conceal their condition, even from friends and close relatives. Estimates, however, indicate at least 1 million – potentially up to 12 million – Hidradenitis Suppurativa sufferers in the United States alone!
~
What’s in a name…
~
HS was first described in 1839 and has since been called many names. We still cannot agree on what to call it. Germans prefer Akne Inversa, the French still like to use Verneuil’s, which we’ll admit, sounds much better than Hidradenitis Suppurativa (‘oozing inflamed sweat glands’). All are equally correct and equally wrong. All but names for symptoms of an underlying disease we don’t yet know.
~
…”correct” names for this disease:
~
Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)
alt: Hidradenitis Supportiva
Acne Inversa (AI)
Apocrine Acne
Acne conglobata
Apocrinitis
Verneuil’s disease
Velpeau’s disease
Fox-den disease
Pyodermia sinifica fistulans
~
Internationally:
Hidrosadénite Suppurée (fr)
Hidrosadenite Supurativa (es)
Idrosadenite suppurativa (it)
Maladie de Verneuil (fr)
Doença de Verneuil (pt)
Akne Inversa (de)
гнойного гидраденита (ru)
~
…has been diagnosed as, but is not:
~ Folliculitis
~ Acne
~ Boils
~ Cysts (sebaceous, inclusion and subcutaneous)
~ Furuncles
~ Carbuncles
~ Poor Hygiene
~
…is definitely not:
~ contagious
~ Herpes
~ STD
~ Cancer
~ Allergies
~ Plague
~
…often happens in conjunction with:
~ PCOS / Insulin Resistance / Androgen Dysfunction
~ Crohns and other inflammatory auto-immune conditions
~ Anemia
~ Hyperhydrosis / hyperhidrosis
~ Depression
~ Acne Vulgaris / Cystic / Conglobata
~ Pilonidal cysts
~
Stages of the Disease
~
Hidradenitis typically develops slowly over time. Since there are no 100% successful treatments it will run its course. Development differs, however, from individual to individual. With some, the disease may stagnate and never develop past a mild stage, with others, it may escalate and become a debilitating disease. We do not know why.
~
This is how HS may progress:
~
~ Stage I: Solitary or multiple isolated abscess formation without scarring or sinus tracts;
~ Stage II: Recurrent abscesses, single or multiple widely separated lesions, with beginning sinus tract formation (“tunneling”) and cicatrisation (formation of scar tissue);
~ Stage III: Diffuse or broad involvement across a regional area with multiple interconnected sinus tracts, significant cicatrisation and persistent abscesses.
