Women normally do outlive men!
~
Psychology of Women by Juanita H. Williams
~
The average woman in the US can expect to outlive the average man by eight years… The difference has increased drastically in the last fifty years due the increase of men getting cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer… Add the decline of women from causes related to pregnancy and childbearing…

Compared to women, men are more than twice as likely to die from seven major causes: coronary heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, motor vehicle and other types of accidents, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide…

These cause account for three-fourths of the sex difference in mortality in the US…

Medical Ripoffs Threaten Your Health and Financial Security

Posted in OFF TOPICS, WAKE UP FYI tagged at 9:30 pm by PCOSLady

PCOS Lady:
Everyone this is a huge WAKE UP for you! Be aware “YOU” are in control of your body and its treatments by doctors… Doctors can give you the options today, you choose what you want…
~
Misdiagnosed is common today… Or not being diagnosed… I feel is because many doctors only hear 3-4 of your 10+ symptoms…
I say;
~ List them all and pay attention to the odd ones that do not overlap other medical conditions… You then zero in on your own diagnosis…
~ Research/Google the medical conditions listed…
~ Ask your doctor to test for them or get scripts for the tests…

How Medical Ripoffs Threaten Your Health and Financial Security
~ Dr Mercola … March 06, 2013
~
Story at-a-glance
~
~ According to a scientific review, the practice of using a type of starch intravenously to replace lost blood volume in critically ill patients is based on studies “loaded with fraudulent data,” and may increase their risk of death or kidney failure
~ According to a British poll from last year, more than one in 10 scientists and doctors claimed to have witnessed colleagues deliberately fabricating data in order to get their research published
~ The Choosing Wisely campaign has issued a second report adding 90 medical tests and procedures that are best avoided, as they provide no benefit, or do more harm than good
~ ~ ~
I have enormous respect for the scientific method, and I believe, when properly applied, it can provide us with profound and valid truths that can guide and direct our treatment strategies.
~
But what many people fail to appreciate is that much of the research published has been deeply influenced and severely tainted by tremendous conflicts of interest and profit-driven motives.
~
Shockingly, according to a British poll from last year, more than one in 10 scientists and doctors claimed to have witnessed colleagues deliberately fabricating data in order to get their research published.
~
Needless to say, this kind of medical and scientific fraud has profound implications for patients. After all, published research is used to devise medical recommendations for patients across the country, if not the world.
~
Other hallmarks of the American health care system are gross overcharges, billing fraud, and the routine use of tests and treatments that have little or no benefit—or worse, do more harm than good.
~
Fraudulent Data May Have Led to Use of Risky Treatment in ICUs
~
One of the latest examples of scientific fraud endangering patients is that of a type of starch (hydroxyethyl), which is used intravenously to replace lost blood volume in critically ill patients. A recent report by MedicineNet.com2 reveals that this practice turns out to be based on studies “loaded with fraudulent data,” and actually does more harm than good:
~
“’According to a new review article in the Feb. 20 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association,3 the starchy solution may instead boost their risk of death or kidney failure,’ the featured article says.
~
“Almost certainly, what is happening is that some of the starch molecules leak out of blood vessels into the kidney itself so the kidney doesn’t work as efficiently,’ said Dr. David Taylor, chairman of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans. He was not involved in the new review.”
~
The issue was initially uncovered in 2011, when investigators discovered that a majority of the research conducted by Dr. Joachim Boldt, a German anesthesiologist, contained fraudulent data. Several of his studies were subsequently retracted. When Dr. Boldt’s research was excluded from the pool of available research on the treatment, hydroxyethyl starch was found to be associated with an increased risk of death, kidney failure, and need for dialysis.
~
“Luckily for American patients, hydroxyethyl starch is not commonly used in the United States, Taylor said. But the new analysis serves as a cautionary tale on how fraudulent data can end up endangering patients’ lives.”
~
Medical Waste: 90 More Unnecessary Tests and Procedures Called Out
~
In related news, a second report has been issued by the Choosing Wisely campaign, sponsored by the Foundation of the American Board of Internal Medicine. The list was compiled by 17 specialty groups representing more than 350,000 doctors. Last year’s report warned doctors against using 45 tests, procedures and treatments that either provide no benefit, or worse, do more harm than good. This year, another 90 tests and treatments were added to the list.
~
As reported by NPR:
~
“The idea is to curb unnecessary, wasteful and often harmful care, its sponsors say — not to ration care. As one foundation official pointed out last year, rationing is denial of care that patients need, while the Choosing Wisely campaign aims to reduce care that has no value.”
~
Examples of care deemed to be of little or no benefit include the following. To learn more, I encourage you to browse through the Choosing Wisely web site, as they provide informative reports on a wide variety of medical specialties, tests, and procedures.
~
Site: http://www.choosingwisely.org/
~
~ Using feeding tubes in patients with advanced dementia. Assisting such patients to take food by mouth is more advantageous to the patient
~ EEGs on patients with recurring headaches. The test does not improve diagnosis or outcome, only increases cost
~ Routine annual PAP tests on women between the ages of 30-65. Once every three years is enough ~ Leaving implantable defibrillator on when a patient with incurable disease has elected to forgo resuscitation
~ Using cough and cold medicine in children under the age of four suffering from respiratory illness. These medications offer little benefit, can have serious side effects and can lead to accidental overdose ~ Repeat bone scans for osteoporosis more frequently than bi-annually. Healthy women over 67 with normal bone mass can go up to 10 years without repeat bone scan
~ Use of benzodiazepines such as Valium, sedatives, or sleep aids in older adults with insomnia, agitation or delirium. These drugs more than double risk of auto accidents, falls, hip fractures, and death
~ Screening healthy individuals for cancer using CT or PET scans, as the likelihood of finding cancer with these means is only about one percent. The scans are likely to detect harmless growths, which lead to additional tests, biopsies and unnecessary surgeries
~ Inducing labor or performing a cesarean section for a baby who’s less than full term without medical cause. Labor induction and/or C-section can increase the risk of learning disabilities and respiratory problems ~ Routine CT scans on children with minor head injuries. Simple observation is just as good, and spares the child from radiation-related health risks
~
American Pays the Most for Health Care But Gains the Least…
~
When you start to consider the volume of unnecessary drugs, tests, procedures, and surgeries conducted each and every day, the reason why Americans spend twice as much on health care per capita than any other nation on the planet, yet still rank dead last in terms of quality of care among industrialized countries becomes clearer.
~
According to a 2011 report by the global consulting firm Milliman, annual healthcare costs for the average American family of four, if covered by a preferred provider organization, is a staggering $19,393. Between 2002 and 2011 alone, the average cost of health care for American families doubled. A recent article lists 50 signs that the US health care system is a gigantic money making scam that is about to collapse.
~
This list includes the following amazing statistics:
~ This year the American people will spend approximately 2.8 trillion dollars on health care, and it is being projected that Americans will spend 4.5 trillion dollars on health care in 2019
~ If the U.S. health care system was a country, it would be the 6th largest economy on the entire planet
~ Approximately 60 percent of all personal bankruptcies in the United States are related to medical bills

Natural relief for andropause
While women undergo menopause, it appears that middle-aged men also experience their own very significant period of change called andropause – sometimes referred to as man-o-pause.

Andropause is caused by a steady decline in two valuable hormones: testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Symptoms vary from one man to another, andropause can result in lower libido, erectile dysfunction, sleep disorders, fatigue, loss of mental sharpness and an inverse change in the ratio of lean muscle to fat.

Diet Soda

Study: Diet Soda Increases the Risk of Diabetes. Why Do We Still Drink This Stuff?
By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Shine | Healthy Living
~
Why do we keep drinking diet soda? (Photo: Getty Images)
~
Yet another study confirms what people have been saying for ages: Stop drinking diet soda. Like, right now. Drinking just one 12-ounce can of an artificially sweetened fizzy drink per week can increase your risk of Type 2 diabetes by 33 percent, French researchers found. And given that most people don’t stop at a single weekly serving, your real risk for diabetes could actually be much higher.
~
Diet Soda May Increase Risk of Depression
~
The study, which was announced Thursday and will be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, was conducted by France’s National Institute of Health and Medical Research and covered 66,118 middle-aged women whose dietary habits and health were tracked from 1993 to 2007.
~
Diet Soda May Be Making You Fat
~
The results were unexpected. Though it’s well-known that people who consume a lot of sugar are more likely to develop diabetes, the researchers found that participants who drank “light” or “diet” soft drinks had a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who drank regular, sugar-filled sodas. Those who drank 100 percent natural squeezed fruit juices instead had no additional risk.
~
Women who choose artificially flavored soft drinks usually drink twice as many of them as women who choose regular soda or juice—2.8 glasses per week compared to 1.6 glasses. “Yet when an equal quantity is consumed, the risk of contracting diabetes is higher for ‘light’ or ‘diet’ drinks than for ‘non-light’ or ‘non-diet’ drinks,” the researchers, epidemiologists Francoise Clavel-Chapelon and Guy Fagherazzi, said in a statement. Women who drank up to 500 milliliters (about 12 ounces) of artificially sweetened beverages per week were 33 percent more likely to develop the disease, and women who drank about 600 milliliters (about 20 ounces) per week had a 66 percent increase in risk.
~
Drinking sweetened beverages increases the risk of becoming overweight, which is itself a risk factor in developing diabetes. But the study didn’t find that the results were the same even among overweight women. So how can artificially sweetened drinks be making the problem worse if they’re fat- and calorie-free?
~
“With respect, in particular, to ‘light’ or ‘diet’ drinks, the relationship with diabetes can be explained partially by a greater craving for sugar in general by female consumers of this type of soft drink,” the researchers explained. “Furthermore, aspartame, one of the main artificial sweeteners used today, causes an increase in glycaemia and consequently a rise in the insulin level in comparison to that produced by sucrose.”
~
Translation: Drinking artificially sweetened drinks makes you crave other sweet things (hello, chocolate!). And your body reacts to aspartame—also known as NutraSweet and Equal—much in the same way that it reacts to plain old sugar.
~
According to the American Diabetes Association, about 25.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes—about 8.3 percent of the population. The disease is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in people age 20 and older, and can also cause heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, kidney disease, and damage to the nervous system. Type 2 diabetes—which can be controlled by diet and exercise rather than a daily insulin injection—is the most common form of diabetes in the United States.
~
The study’s authors cautioned that more research was needed in order to prove a true causal link between diet sodas and Type 2 diabetes. “Information on beverage consumption was not updated during the follow-up, and dietary habits may have changed over time,” they admitted in their report. “We cannot rule out that factors other than ASB [artificially sweetened beverages] are responsible for the association with diabetes.”

~
Story at-a-glance
~ Today’s “throwaway society” has created mountains of plastic waste, including billions of bottles and bags that clog up landfills and take hundreds of years to break down, as this documentary shows
~ Twenty billion pounds of plastic is making its way into our oceans each year, where wave action turns them into a plastic soup; the five oceanic gyres each have massive whirlpools of trash in their cores, damaging sea life and marine ecosystems
~ Fish and other sea creatures are being contaminated with plastic, in and around their bodies; sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish (their favorite food), and albatrosses are found strangled to death by plastic six-pack rings; many species consume plastic “nurdles” and suffer dire consequences, including death
~ Chemicals from plastic waste harm living things all the way up the food chain, from plankton to humans; BPA and BPS disrupt embryonic development and are linked to heart disease and cancer; phthalates (such as the plasticizer DEHP) disturb gene expression;
~ Even more disturbing, a groundbreaking study suggests serious adverse health problems may be passed down multiple generations
~ Suggestion are given about how you can break your plastic addiction and reduce your own plastic footprint

PCOS Lady:
Some foods like garlic and curry will produce a body odor… Consider your eating habits along with your daily routine in your life… You may have added stress or something triggering your body odor…

~
SYMPTOMS
~
By Mayo Clinic staff
~
Healthy people sweat, but when, where and how much varies. Factors that cause most people to sweat include:
~
Exercise, especially strenuous exercise
Hot weather
Nervousness, anxiety or stress
~
Perspiration that’s triggered by emotion is most likely to occur on your face, in your armpits, on your palms and on the soles of your feet. But how much you sweat and even the way your sweat smells can be influenced by your mood, your diet, some drugs and medical conditions, and even your hormone levels. What’s more — unfair as it seems — some people inherit a tendency to sweat heavily, especially on their soles and palms.
~
Because it’s almost impossible to define normal sweating and body odor, try to learn what’s normal for you. That will help you pinpoint any unusual changes.
~
WHEN TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR
Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following:
~
~ You suddenly begin to sweat much more or less than usual.
~ Sweating disrupts your daily routine.
~ You experience night sweats for no apparent reason.
~ You notice a change in body odor — a change in body odor may be a sign of certain medical conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis or kidney failure.

Prostate Cancer (Men – Important)

Posted in OFF TOPICS, PROSTATE CANCER tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 7:56 pm by PCOSLady

THE PROUD STALLION... Get tested to stay a proud stallion! 1 in 6 men will get prostate cancer ... It is the #2 killer in men!

PROSTATE CANCER
~
PCOS Lady
Men i care about YOU! That is why i posted this… Please have anything out of the normal of “you” checked out… Something minor can mean something huge in you!! Don’t take a chance!
~ Your pride is not worth dying over and causing your family years of grief for this!
~
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages. It is rare in men younger than 40.
Realize one in six men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, getting a prostate test is no laughing matter…
~
* All men know if something has changed in their “private” area… That change needs researched online then looked in to by a doctor or specialist!
~ Dr Mercola is world renown and supports his claims by good doctors, research and reliable sites! (Doctors hate him cause he is on our side, the people’s side telling us the “TRUTHS”…)
~
Prostate Cancer Symptoms
~
When cancer is confined to the prostate gland, prostate cancer symptoms are similar to BPH and prostatitis, and can include:
~
~ Strong urge to urinate immediately
~ Difficulty starting the urinary stream
~ A weak urinary stream once it starts
~ Dribbling after you think you’re finished
~ Frequent nighttime urination
~ Pain and/or burning when you urinate
~ Pain in the genital and pelvic area
~ Pain when you ejaculate
~ Frequent urinary tract infections
~ Blood in your urine or semen
~
Other prostate cancer symptoms may include:
~
~ unexpected weight loss
~ anemia
~ fatigue
~ pain in the lower back or abdomen
~
Because prostate cancer symptoms are similar to BPH symptoms and prostatitis symptoms it’s easy for you to assume that you have one disease when you could actually be suffering from something more serious. This is another reason why you should get regular examinations, especially if you are experiencing symptoms.

Top Ten Reasons to Avoid Your Doctor
~
July 25 2012
~
PSA Tests for Prostate Cancer
~
These tests actually reveal very little, and an irrelevant positive result will likely lead to a biopsy that comes with infection risk. The prostate-specific antigen test (PSA test), analyzes your blood for prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a substance produced by your prostate gland. When higher-than-normal levels of PSA are detected, it is believed that cancer is present. However, PSA screening barely has any impact on mortality rates from prostate cancer. As a result, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force will soon recommend that men not get screened for prostate cancer.
~
Today, many experts agree that PSA testing is unreliable at best and useless at worst for accurately diagnosing prostate cancer. Many also agree that routine PSA blood tests often lead to over-diagnosis of prostate cancer, resulting in unnecessary treatments. Similar to mammograms, the PSA screen has become little more than an up-sell technique. The false positive rate is high, and the bulk of the harm is a result of subsequent unnecessary treatments.
~
Diet is actually a factor that can greatly impact your prostate health and help prevent enlarged prostate and prostate cancer, but many physicians fail to address this.
~
You’ll want to eat as much organic (preferably raw) food as possible, and liberally include fresh herbs and spices, such as ginger. Make sure to limit carbohydrates like sugar/fructose and grains as much as possible to maintain optimal insulin levels, which will help reduce your cancer risk in general. Highly processed or charcoaled meats, pasteurized dairy products, and synthetic trans fats correlate with an increased risk for prostate cancer and should also be avoided.
