METABOLIC SYNDROME
(Syndrome X)

~
PCOS Lady:
Women carry the extra weight in their chin, tummy and abdomen… A tall tail sign…
~
The weight in the tummies i refer to IR weight, lol… No matter what i try aside from starvation that weight will not disappear without my “miracle” pill Glucophage XR 500 mg daily for a few months!

Metabolic Syndrome (Syndrome X)
~
What is it?
~
Metabolic Syndrome, a.k.a. Syndrome X, occurs in 24% of U.S. adults, or approximately 60-75 million Americans. It is usually associated with obesity. It is a condition that features the combination of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia (excessive or too much insulin), which has profound health implications. It is commonly associated with coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus type 2. These individuals often have lipid profiles in which they have elevated triglycerides with low HDL levels (their triglyceride/HDL ratios are usually over 4.) Their fasting insulin levels are above 8.
~
DO I HAVE METABOLIC SYNDROME?
~
Here are ten clues:
* I cannot lose weight.
* I tend to gain weight in the “apple” distribution.
* I crave sugar and carbohydrates.
* My energy levels are erratic.
* I have a family history of diabetes.
* I had a large baby (over nine pounds) and/or had gestational diabetes.
* I have a history of polycystic ovaries.
* I have non-European ancestry.
* I have a tendency to hypertension and/or borderline blood sugars.
* I have skin tags around my neck and upper body.
~
The five clinical criteria doctors use to diagnose metabolic syndrome are listed below. If you have three of them, see your health provider for an in depth work-up.
~
FIVE CLINICAL CRITERIA OF METABOLIC SYNDROME
~
* Elevated waist circumference (greater than 40 inches in males and 35 inches in females)
* Triglyceride levels above 150 mg/dl
* Decreased HDL (less than 40 mg/dl for men and below 50 mg/dl for females)
* Blood pressure above 130/85
* Fasting glucose above 110 mg/dl

Walking Barefoot for Good Health

Why Walking Barefoot Might Be an Essential Element of Good Health
~
September 20 2012
~
By Dr. Mercola
~
When’s the last time you kicked off your shoes and reveled in the feeling of the Earth under your feet?
~
Been awhile?
~
It may sound hard to believe, but engaging in this simple pleasure could give your health a much-needed boost.
~
Often it is the case that engaging in activities that feel good on an intrinsic level really are good for your health — like the feeling of the afternoon sun warming your bare skin.
~
Walking barefoot outside, with the soles of your feet free to mesh with the surface of the Earth – an activity known as Earthing, or grounding — is another such case.
~
I have been personally intrigued with grounding for nearly seven years and have been seeking to ground myself most of the time.
~
This is a fascinating leading-edge concept, and I would strongly encourage you to carefully read the featured article for more details.
~
You are an Electrical Being, and the Earth’s Surface is Electrically Conductive
~
You are an electrical being — your body regularly produces positive charges, which can oxidize and harm you if it is excessive..
~
The Earth’s surface is electrically conductive; it maintains a negative charge with its free electron supply continually replenished by the global atmospheric electrical circuit.
~
A Review of Earthing Research Shows Significant Benefits
~
In a new article published in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health, researchers reviewed the Earthing research, revealing an impressive impact on a variety of health conditions. Most of the studies involved indoor testing methods that simulated being barefoot outdoors. This was found to offer improvements in the following conditions:
~
~ Sleep disturbances, including sleep apnea
~ Chronic muscle and joint pain, and other types of pain
~ Asthmatic and respiratory conditions
~ Rheumatoid arthritis
~ PMS
~ Hypertension
~ Energy levels
~ Stress
~ Immune system activity and response
~ Heart rate variability
~ Primary indicators of osteoporosis
~ Fasting glucose levels among people with diabetes
~
PCOS Lady:
I love walking barefoot! Now i know the health benefits for it… Spiritual people know about grounding and the importance in it… Go barefoot’n!
~
Another invaluable benefit is this: when your body is grounded, researchers write, “its electrical potential becomes equalized with the Earth’s electrical potential through a transfer of electrons from the Earth to the body.” This, in turn, offers an “umbrella” of protection against the electromagnetic fields that are now ubiquitous in our environment. The paper continues:
~
“The study confirms the “umbrella” effect of earthing the body explained by Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman in his lectures on electromagnetism. Feynman said that when the body’s potential is the same as the Earth’s electric potential (and thus grounded), it becomes an extension of the Earth’s gigantic electric system. The Earth’s potential thus becomes the “working agent that cancels, reduces, or pushes away electric fields from the body.”
~
Most of the scientists working in this area now believe that the beneficial effects are mediated through reduction in inflammation and a thinning of the blood. In fact the blood thinning effect is so profound that if you are taking blood thinners it is recommended to immediately consult with your doctor, as most likely your blood thinner will need to be lowered.
~
Two Ways to Make Sure You Stay Grounded
~
The effects of grounding appear to be so profound that researchers suggest health practitioners prescribe outdoor “barefoot sessions” as the weather permits. This is as simple as it sounds – you kick off your shoes and socks and walk barefoot on the grass, the dirt, the sand or whatever “Earth” is available to you. Studies suggest that benefits such as pain relief and stress reduction may occur in just 30-80 minutes of barefoot time a day.
~
This can obviously be a challenge during the winter, or if you live in an urban area without easy access to parks or other barefoot-friendly surfaces, so the other option is to use a grounding or Earthing pad, which allows you to get the benefits of the Earth’s electrons even if you’re indoors, especially when you’re sleeping. I’ve been using one for several months now, especially when I travel by plane, as air travel is a suspected cause of weakening bio-electric currents.
~
So, like access to regular sun exposure, walking barefoot outside is a grossly neglected foundational practice that you can easily correct. In the Journal of Environmental and Public Health, researchers concluded:
~
“Emerging evidence shows that contact with the Earth—whether being outside barefoot or indoors connected to grounded conductive systems—may be a simple, natural, and yet profoundly effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS [autonomic nervous system] dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV [heart rate variability], hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease.
~
The research done to date supports the concept that grounding or earthing the human body may be an essential element in the health equation along with sunshine, clean air and water, nutritious food, and physical activity.”
~

~
NOTE
~
PCOS Lady:
Doctors rarely ever tell you to walk barefoot outside! Makes me think and realize they wouldn’t cause we would not be as sick as we are if we did walk outside barefoot grounding ourselves…
~ I remember seeing on TV years ago a man wake up in the am with the bottom half of his arm missing, no blood…
~ The electrical charge in his body blew it off! Cauterized it as well…
~ Sure is something to remember!

Magnesium ~ Epsom Salts

MAGNESIUM ~ EPSOM SALTS
~
http://www.ehow.com/how_4887228_epsom-salt-number-of-ways.html
~ EHow …
Increase your magnesium levels in your body by soaking in Epsom salt bath water three times weekly. While it is extremely difficult to get enough magnesium in our systems through our diets, it is readily absorbs into our systems through our skin. Magnesium is needed by our bodies for many functions; however, a doctor should be consulted prior to extensive use, particularly for those with kidney problems. Magnesium works to activate many other enzymes our body needs.
~
Magnesium is useful in the treatment of asthma, COPD, fibromyalgia, ADD, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, angina, cardiac arrhythmia, congestive heart failure, fatigue, kidney stones, migraine and tension headaches, complications due to pregnancy and premenstrual syndrome. Our bodies cannot properly use serotonin without the assistance of magnesium. Serotonin is a natural chemical created within the brain responsible for feelings of well being and relaxation. So maybe there is something to that saying “Calgon take me away”?
~
Importance of Magnesium is Far Greater than Previously Imagined
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/12/17/magnesium-benefits.aspx?e_cid=20121217_DNL_art_1
~ Dr Mercola … Importance of Magnesium is Far Greater than Previously Imagined… A number of studies have previously shown magnesium can benefit your blood pressure and help prevent sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, and stroke. But its role in human health appears to be far more complex than previously thought, and—like vitamin D—its benefits may be more far-reaching than we’ve imagined. GreenMedInfo.com‘s database project has indexed over 100 health benefits of magnesium so far, including therapeutic benefits for: Fibromyalgia, Cardiovascular disease, Atrial fibrillation, Migraine, Type 2 diabetes, Aging, Premenstrual syndrome, Mortality… As you age: Age — older adults are more likely to be magnesium deficient because absorption decreases with age and the elderly are more likely to take medications that can interfere with absorption… Diabetes, especially if it’s poorly controlled, leading increased magnesium loss in urine…

Cardiometabolics
~
The biggest health problem facing the world today is from the
combined impact of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
It is critical that physicians and health care providers understand
the predictive relationship between metabolic risk factors and cardiovascular disease and employ aggressive intervention strategies to prevent and/or delay disease progression.
~
The 2012 Cardiometabolic Health Congress (CMHC) will take place October 10-13, 2012, at the Westin Boston Waterfront, in Boston, MA. The CMHC is currently working to design the 2012 curriculum to provide the most effective, current strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, thrombosis, chronic kidney disease, and related comorbidities. Join our mailing list to be the first to receive the latest and greatest information regarding the 2012 CMHC program agenda and faculty.
~
The 2011 CMHC took place October 19-22, 2011 at the Sheraton Hotel, in Boston, MA, and was our most successful program yet. Over
1300 U.S.-based practicing clinicians joined our expert-level forum — translating the latest clinical data into practical strategies to prevent, delay, and manage cardiometabolic risk.

Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome is a long-recognized medical condition, but has been defined only recently. A person is diagnosed with the syndrome when he or she has three of these five disorders affecting metabolism:
~
~ High blood pressure
~ High blood sugar
~ High triglycerides
~ Low HDL (‘good’) cholesterol
~ Abdominal obesity
~
Although any of these factors alone is unhealthy, the net effect of having at least three of these disorders is even worse, dramatically increasing the risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In fact, metabolic syndrome carries the same cardiovascular risk as smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. The good news is that intervention and treatment in a comprehensive program can decrease cardiovascular risk and prevent the onset of diabetes.

Hypertension, Diabetes, or Heart Disease can = Dementia

Posted in FYI tagged , , , , at 12:41 am by PCOSLady

Ladies,
These medical conditions are under PCOS Syndrome too!
We now know what we may face in our later years if not treated or treated properly…
– Sure is alot to consider….
I found this info interesting from www.EverydayHealth.com …
http://www.everydayhealth.com/PublicSite/index.aspx?puid=109cb8a3-304b-4dd3-9a35-1315e9456b73&p=1

Ask Dr. Robert Butler

Different Kinds of Dementia?

If your mother-in-law has hypertension, diabetes, or coronary heart disease, it is important that these be properly diagnosed and treated, as all can contribute to vascular forms of dementia and possibly Alzheimer’s disease as well. And if your mother-in-law does have one of the dementias, you need, unfortunately, to be thinking about the future. Are there other family members that could help with caregiving responsibilities so that there would be adequate respite for all? Planning ahead and getting the right support structure in place can be invaluable for minimizing distress not only for your mother-in-law but the entire family as well.

PCOS Lady:
Ladies
This is a strong guide of tests you should have done at some point… Your doctor may take less or more, your insurance may not cover some… If your doctor requests more, ask WHY… If your insurance does not cover them, ask WHY and have your doctor explain why the need in writing to them…

~
I hope this list further helps you in proper testing to give you a precise view of where you stand with your body in having PCOS… You are then able to know what needs done to make the wrongs right….
~  These tests sure showed me what’s what …

~
