~ 4 Pumpkin Seed Snack Ideas … By The Paula Deen Test Kitchen

Here at The Paula Deen Test Kitchen, we carve an obscene amount of pumpkins in October and all through the fall. Don’t get us wrong, though; we love it! We get such a big kick out of carving ghoulish grins and sinister silhouettes. So, what’s the problem, you may ask?

Piles and piles of pumpkin seeds.

Because of our waste-not, want-not attitude, we firmly believe in the following motto: “Let no seed go to waste!”

Silly Seeds
4 cups pumpkin seeds
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon Paula Deen Silly Salt

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Remove pumpkin seeds from pumpkin and discard any pulp. Rinse seeds under running water to remove any remaining pumpkin. Spread seeds out on paper towels to thoroughly dry.

Toss pumpkin seeds with olive oil and sprinkle with Silly Salt. Spread seeds out in an even layer on the parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, tossing every 15 minutes to prevent burning. Allow pumpkin seeds to cool before eating. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Seeds
4 Tablespoons unsalted butter
4 cups pumpkin seeds, roasted and salted
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 teaspoons chili powder

In a medium saucepan, melt butter. Add seeds and toss to coat in butter. Stir in brown sugar and chili powder. Spread onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let cool completely.

Pumpkin Seed Snack Mix

1 1/2 cups pumpkin seeds, roasted and salted
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1/2 cup dried dates, chopped
1/2 cup unsalted almonds
1/2 cup candy coated chocolate pieces

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients until well incorporated. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Pepita Brittle
1 stick unsalted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
2 cups pumpkin seeds, roasted and salted

Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in sugar and honey. Bring to a boil. Cook, without stirring, until mixture is medium amber and a candy thermometer registers 280 degrees, about 6 minutes. Stir in pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin seeds. Cook until mixture reaches 300 degrees, about 2 minutes. Pour onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let cool completely. Break into pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

SUNDAY, March 25 (HealthDay News) — There may be a link between low levels of “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and increased cancer risk, according to new research.
~
In the study, researchers looked at 201 cancer patients and 402 cancer-free patients. They found that cancer patients who never took cholesterol-lowering drugs had low LDL cholesterol levels for an average of about 19 years prior to their cancer diagnosis.
The finding suggests there may be some underlying mechanism that affects both LDL cholesterol levels and cancer risk, the study authors said.

Still, other experts cautioned that the finding is preliminary, and lowering your LDL levels is well known to cut the odds for the number one killer, heart disease.

Here are two ratios, easily calculated from a lipid panel, which can help you evaluate your child’s heart disease risk:

~ HDL/Total Cholesterol Ratio: Should ideally be more than 24 percent. If it’s less than10 percent, your child has a significant risk for developing heart disease.
~ Triglyceride/HDL Ratio: Should be less than 2.

Statin Side Effects: Keep Out of the Reach of Children!

In 2007, the American Heart Association first recommended the use of statin drugs for children with high cholesterol. Then, in 2008 the American Academy of Pediatrics followed suit, recommending cholesterol-lowering drugs for children as young as age 8.

Now they are concocting ways to place more and more children on statins, in spite of the overwhelming evidence for serious side effects — nearly 900 studies point to the damaging effects of these drugs.

The list of statin-related health problems includes the following:

~ Muscle damage (potentially permanent), mostly related to CoQ10 depletion
~ Heart damage, heart failure and strokes
~ Neuropathy
~ Immune system suppression
~ Pancreatic dysfunction
~ Hepatic dysfunction
~ Increased cancer risk
~ Cognitive impairment
~ Depression

In addition to these risks, there are also risks from insufficient CoQ10 levels, which directly relate to the use of statins:

~ Impaired white blood cell activity
~ Reduced muscle strength contraction — especially for the heart muscle

~ Decreased ability to neutralize free radicals

And now, it would appear, they are pushing a massive kiddie-statin campaign, disguised as “preventative medicine.”

A number of times over fraudulent claims about the “health benefits” of Lipitor. Lipitor is particularly damaging if you are diabetic, doubling your risk for stroke. And with childhood diabetes rates increasing by leaps and bounds, prescribing Lipitor would be extremely risky to these diabetic or pre-diabetic kids.

Abit on me, i dropped 6 full dress sizes and 60lbs in 8 months in the early 90’s… High protein, complex & low carbs is the way i did it… I combined a body builder’s diet, Atkin’s, Weight Watcher’s and my own ways in it… No added exercise accept my normal work days… My fat was solid, no cellulite…
~ Many body builders complimented me on my diet… Telling me no bananas 1st thing was my only mistake!
~ I gained many pounds back over time… I knew then i needed help for an internal problem…
~ 2003 i was diagnosed with PCOS, a hormone imbalance issue…

Know it takes 2 weeks to wean your body off carbs and cravings…
– Proteins keep your tummy satisfied…

Keep a high protein level daily of 30% to keep muscle mass….

Get a blood test done called Serum Insulin Level test!
A blood test, level should be under 11 to lose weight… If 12 and higher you need a strict diet, hard exercise or you may have a hormone imbalance or something else….
