Metabolic Syndrome (Syndrome X)

What is it?
~
Metabolic Syndrome, a.k.a. Syndrome X, occurs in 24% of U.S. adults, or approximately 60-75 million Americans. It is usually associated with obesity. It is a condition that features the combination of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia (excessive or too much insulin), which has profound health implications. It is commonly associated with coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus type 2. These individuals often have lipid profiles in which they have elevated triglycerides with low HDL levels (their triglyceride/HDL ratios are usually over 4.) Their fasting insulin levels are above 8.

DO I HAVE METABOLIC SYNDROME?
~
Here are ten clues:
* I cannot lose weight.
* I tend to gain weight in the “apple” distribution.
* I crave sugar and carbohydrates.
* My energy levels are erratic.
* I have a family history of diabetes.
* I had a large baby (over nine pounds) and/or had gestational diabetes.
* I have a history of polycystic ovaries.
* I have non-European ancestry.
* I have a tendency to hypertension and/or borderline blood sugars.
* I have skin tags around my neck and upper body.

The five clinical criteria doctors use to diagnose metabolic syndrome are listed below. If you have three of them, see your health provider for an in depth work-up.

FIVE CLINICAL CRITERIA OF METABOLIC SYNDROME
~
* Elevated waist circumference (greater than 40 inches in males and 35 inches in females)
* Triglyceride levels above 150 mg/dl
* Decreased HDL (less than 40 mg/dl for men and below 50 mg/dl for females)
* Blood pressure above 130/85
* Fasting glucose above 110 mg/dl

Lifestyle change is finding the way of eating that best suits you… Your looks, health and life depends on it!

Abit on me, i dropped 6 full dress sizes and 60lbs in 8 months in the early 90’s… High protein, complex & low carbs is the way i did it… I combined a body builder’s diet, Atkin’s, Weight Watcher’s and my own ways in it… No added exercise accept my normal work days… My fat was solid, no cellulite…
~ Many body builders complimented me on my diet… Telling me no bananas 1st thing was my only mistake!
~ I gained many pounds back over time… I knew then i needed help for an internal problem…
~ 2003 i was diagnosed with PCOS, a hormone imbalance issue…
~ Given Glucophage XR 500mg daily…
~ 2003 i lost 6 full dress sizes and 30lbs in 4 months…
~ Budget forced me off the Gluc, i put some weight back on with cellulite…

Drinks – Clear soda is far better than colored ones… Colored ones have chemicals in it to hurt you… Mountain Dew is the worst! It has Bromade(sp) (Bromine) a poison in it shadowed by heavy amounts of sugar…
– Beer – Budweiser is the only beer loaded with chemicals which answers why most people get headaches drinking it!

– * A headache is the 1st thing a person will usually experience when the body is rejecting what you are eating, drinking or taking….

Waist:
Healthy: Your waist should be half your height…
– To measure, suck your tummy in for a proper measurement per Dr Oz!
– Women, waist should be no more than 35″…
– Men, waist no more than 40″…

Do not ever eat a banana 1st thing! Tummy can’t digest it…
~
Biggest Loser says eat small meals, meat, veggies & sides the size of your palm…
~
Start with this list… I say modify…
~
You can always discard the bun and bread to use lettuce…
~
Remember to eat something every 2-3 hours…
Plus do not eat anything 3 hours before bedtime…
~
Always eat carbs with a protein! You never absorb the calories…
~
Drink a 12 oz of soda a day if you like…
Stay away from diet stuff – BAD for you!
Use butter never margarine, etc…
– Margarine clogs arteries!
~
Chew sugarless gum or keep hard candy or nuts or trail mix with you…
– 1/4 cup of almonds or walnuts daily are great!
– Pistachios are good too…
~
Know it takes 2 weeks to wean your body off carbs and cravings…
– Proteins keep your tummy satisfied…
~
Keep a high protein level daily of 30% to keep muscle mass….
~
“Key” Test
Get a blood test done called Serum Insulin Level test!
A blood test, level should be under 11 to lose weight… If 12 and higher you need a strict diet, hard exercise or you may have a hormone imbalance or something else….
